Road Hog’s Barbeque is holding a community competition to find the best idea for a new daily special.
The Road Hog’s Barbeque Community Battle of the Specials Competition stems from an in-house competition they held last year.
According to David Bostic, they got a large amount of feedback from the community after last year’s competition with many people wishing to participate. That is why this year they are opening the contest to anyone in the community who wishes to enter.
Entering is simple. Tag the Road Hog’s Barbeque Facebook page in a photo or video detailing your idea for “the most delicious, interesting daily special you can come up with.” All entries must be posted by midnight on Friday, March 12.
After all of the submissions have been received, each of the guys behind Road Hogs — David Bostic, Clay Elkins, Cody Steele, Caleb Arwood and John Guenther — will choose their favorite idea and cook it. It is important to note that they are looking for dishes that they will be able to sell for less than $10.
The person whose idea is chosen will then team up with the Road Hogs guy who chose the entry. Together, each team will promote their dish and attempt to win the title of “Most Inspired and Delicious Special.”
After all of this, the Road Hogs Facebook page will share a voting link to allow all of their friends and followers to vote for the best special. Participants are also encouraged to get their family and friends to vote.
David Bostic said of the competition, “It’s going to be amazing, epic.” He also said, “We have so much fun when we get the opportunity to engage with the community like this.”
The mission of Road Hog’s Barbeque is community involvement and support. They strive to help create a “true community” where everyone can lean on each other and provide help to those who need it. Bostic said that he wants the community to know that they are more than just a “restaurant in the middle of town”; they are also members of the community.
The community of White Sulphur Springs — where Road Hog’s is located — was badly damaged in the major flooding event of 2016. Since then, the residents, businesses and local government have come together to rebuild the town better than before. Road Hog’s is a part of this effort.
The Community Battle of The Specials is set to be an intense competition. It is anyone’s game but Bostic is confident that he will choose the winning special, saying “I’m gonna win.”
