Clarence “Wayne” Burdette
Clarence “Wayne” Burdette, age 70, of Alderson, WV, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2024, after a four year battle with a rare soft-tissue sarcoma. He was surrounded by his family at Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, WV.
Wayne was born on August 31, 1954, in Hinton, WV, to the late Norman O. and Mildred Deeds Burdette. He and his siblings were raised in Alderson. He graduated from Greenbrier East High School and attended New River Community College. In 1975, he enlisted in the United States Army and spent two years in Germany, where he proudly served his country. When he returned home, he began his forty-two-year career with The Greenbrier Hotel valet parking for guests. He was a member of Old Greenbrier Baptist Church.
Wayne will be remembered for many things: his genuine friendships, his vegetable gardens, his beef jerky, his mustang that he drove way too fast, pinball, and hunting with his family. He was a former WV State Champion in horseshoes.
Wayne’s priority was always his family. He was an incredible husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of forty-one years, Patti-Ann (Still) Burdette. As they traveled through life, they were a force to be reckoned with – a true partnership.
He is also survived by his daughter, Bethany Lynn Burdette, of Lewisburg; his son, Bryan Wayne Burdette and his wife, Beth, of Alderson; his granddaughter, Jadelynn Nicol Burdette, of Alderson; his brothers, Eddie Burdette, of Alderson and Jeff Burdette and his fiancé, Mary, of Covington, VA; his sister, Jeanie Arritt and her husband, James, of Low Moor, VA; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Lynn and Lew Burdette; and his nephew, Scott Burdette.
