PETERSTOWN W.Va. (WVDN) – The Peterstown Rowe-Jones American Legion Post 145 Thursday launched plans for the coming holidays and peered into 2025 with plans for a community dance.

During its November monthly meeting, Post 145 members resolved to take part in the Christmas parades in Peterstown on Dec. 3 and in Ballard on Dec. 7.

It was noted that cash awards would be presented at the Peterstown Parade for the best-decorated parade floats with $250, $150, and $100 for first, second, and third place winners.

Plans for the Post 145 Christmas party, including a potluck dinner, were discussed and finalized. The get-together will include spouses and guests.

The Post delved into the 2025 future with discussions for a Valentine’s Day and/or a St. Patrick’s Day dance.  Post Adjutant Todd Fairchild advised he has already started a search for a live band and has reached out to a number of local bands.  Local bands interested in this event may contact Adjutant Fairchild at telephone number 732-812-7268.

During a discussion of college scholarships awarded by Post 145, Commander Bridget Larew suggested that a scholarship for attendance at vocational schools be considered.  This proposal was enthusiastically received, and serious future planning is projected.

Commander Larew disclosed that a quilt raffle held recently at the C & C Diner in Lindside brought in $200 for Post 145 and was matched with an additional $200 personal contribution by C & C Diner owner Connie Broyles.

A raffle drawing for a Model 334 rifle with a Turkish Walnut stock was held on Veterans Day following the Lindside Parade. The winner was Tommy Hardy.

Other administrative matters were discussed and approved, including minutes of the last meeting and a financial report.

For information about the American Legion and/or Post 145, contact Commander Bridget Larew at telephone number 412-759-1908 or Adjutant Todd Fairchild at telephone number 732-812-7268.
