HICO – Greenbrier West fell in their regular season finale 49-8 at Midland Trail. Trailing 6-0 early in the second quarter, the Cavaliers took the lead when Evan Vandall pushed the ball across the goal line for a one-yard score. Kamden Sams connected with Colton Dunbar on a slick two-point conversion pass for an 8-6 lead with 11:04 remaining in the first half.
From that point, Midland Trail would score 43 unanswered points to win going away. The Patriots led 28-8 at the halftime break and 42-8 at the end of the third. In the 40th meeting between the schools, it was only the 13th time Midland Trail had defeated Greenbrier West.
The loss drops the Cavaliers to 5-5 on the season, but the season may not be over yet. Greenbrier West knew going into the game that they would seal a playoff spot with a win and the Cavaliers’ hopes are still alive going into week eleven, but they obviously need some help.
Midland Trail improved to 4-5 with the win and concludes their season at winless Lincoln County next Friday.
