LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – As the chill rolls into the Greenbrier Valley, the hardworking and extremely devoted Greenbrier East Marching Band may find some much-deserved rest. After an incredible season traveling, practicing, staying after school late and balancing a myriad of responsibilities, the children and band boosters close their season, hosting a marching band festival where talents from many neighboring schools, showed up in style. They looked pressed and dressed and all did a fantastic job. A huge thank you to Band Director Jim Allder and Booster Amanda Butler among many others who give 100% support and encouragement to our youth, keeping the arts alive in public schools. You can catch a great show called “Sparta” after the Homecoming Game on Friday, Oct. 18 at East High School in Lewisburg.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, The Greenbrier East High School Spartan Band and the GEHS Band Boosters hosted the Spartan Classic Marching Band Festival.

The event featured 13 competing bands in four size divisions. Unlike most sports events, which classify teams based on the size of the school, marching band competition divisions are derived from the number of musicians playing in each band.

The following are stats from the marching band festival. Congratulations to all. Thank you Jim Allder for the information.

Class D Bands included Greenbrier West, Summers County, Petersburg, Independence, and Ravenswood.

Winners in Class D were:

In addition to the competing bands, Saturday’s event also featured outstanding exhibition performances by Eastern Greenbrier Middle School, Greenbrier East High School, and the Shepherd University Ram Band.

The Greenbrier East Spartan Band continues its season this Friday with multiple performances in the GEHS Homecoming festivities.  You can catch our award-winning show “Sparta!” in a special post-game performance after the Homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 18 held at East High School.

The band competition season wraps up for the Spartan Band on Saturday, Oct. 26 with performances at the West Virginia Marching Band Invitational at Laidley Field in Charleston, and the Tri-State Contest of Champions at Marshall University in Huntington.

“The Spartan Band wishes to thank all of those who have supported us this season!” Jim Allder said.
