Charleston, WV — Solar United Neighbors of West Virginia (SUN) and West Virginians for Energy Freedom (WV4EF) have launched the Solar Installer Code of Ethics and Ethics Pledge to promote transparency and integrity within West Virginia’s growing solar industry. This initiative aims to support local solar professionals in maintaining high ethical standards while safeguarding consumers during the state’s transition to clean energy.

The Ethics Pledge outlines essential commitments, including honest communication, transparent pricing, and the responsible use of government incentives. It empowers consumers to feel confident when selecting a solar provider, knowing they’re working with a company that values ethical business practices.

“West Virginia’s solar industry can lead the way in clean energy,” said Courtney MacDonald, WV4EF representative. “By signing this Pledge, companies demonstrate their dedication to best practices, elevating the industry and building consumer trust.”

Consumers can easily identify which solar companies have taken the pledge by looking for the Pledge Badge displayed in marketing materials or by checking the list of certified companies at energyfreedomwv.org. To ensure they are working with a trusted installer, consumers are encouraged to ask if their contractor has signed the pledge and review the available companies on the website.

Solar companies that sign the pledge also receive the added benefit of the Pledge Badge, which highlights their commitment to ethical practices. This badge assures customers that the solar installer prioritizes integrity in all aspects of their business.

Several key players in West Virginia’s solar industry have already signed the Ethics Pledge and expressed their support for raising standards in the industry.

“At mtvSolar, we are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in all aspects of our business,” said Mike McKechnie from mtvSolar. “Signing the Solar Installer Code of Ethics aligns perfectly with our core values of honesty, integrity, and transparency. By joining this initiative, we aim to strengthen consumer confidence and promote reputable, responsible solar practices within West Virginia.”

Taylor Mills of Advancing Solar Solutions, LLC advises consumers to shop carefully when selecting a solar installer. “Going solar is a serious financial decision with lasting implications. If the salesperson exudes high pressure, please understand that they are acting inappropriately and likely do not have your best interests at heart. Ask the salesperson for three client references and visit at least one of their installations. Any respectable solar contractor should have many customers that are excited to share their installation experience.”

Lee Casto of Revolt Energy echoes these sentiments: “It is important to have an ethics standard in any industry. Revolt Energy is proud to sign and adhere to the Solar Ethics Pledge. Our goal is to bring energy independence and financial security to the residents and businesses of Appalachia, while maintaining the highest level of ethical practices.”
