Alda Waid Smith, age 88, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, at the home of her daughter, Lori, in Dawson, WV.
Alda was born on August 15, 1931, in Alvon, WV, and was the daughter of William E. and Lena Whitman Waid.
Alda was not only a loving mother and grandmother, but a devoted Christian. Throughout her entire life she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with everyone she met. She was a member of the Sinks Grove Baptist Church and also attended Lick Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Alda joins her loving husband of 57 years, John B. Smith, in heaven.
Survivors include her children, Lori Fitzwater (Steve) of Dawson, Kevin Smith (Cheryl), Phillip Smith (Barbara), Darrell Smith (Missy), and Brenda Carty (J.D.), all of Frenchburg, KY; brother, Nelson Waid; sister, Nellie Hurley, all of White Sulphur Springs, WV; grandchildren, Sherry Romello, Sonya Adams, Darla Bell, Nicki Centers, Kenny Hurt, Kevin Hurt and Casey Hurt, David Bennett, Alan Bennett, Steele Fitzwater, and Zachary Smith; along with numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
The family had a celebration of Alda’s life on Saturday, December 14, 2019, with Pastor Everette “Hat” Defibaugh officiating. Burial followed in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg, WV.
Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
