CHARMCO- We are officially in game week and for the Greenbrier West Cavaliers, that is A-okay with them.

Greenbrier West scrimmaged Nitro this past Friday night in what was the final preseason action before they open their 2024 campaign this Friday, Aug. 30 at Pendleton County.

With just several players and contributors back from last year’s team that went to the state championship game, West is ready to go out and show everyone that they can reload, not rebuild.

One player that was not around last year for the state run was right tackle Randy Keener. Keener is back this year and ready to get going.

“It feels great,” Keener said after the scrimmage when asked how it felt to be back.

“I just came out here, I missed my brothers, and you know, we went to the state championship last year and I wasn’t there, and I need to be a part of it,” he continued.

Fourth-year player and senior right guard Peyton Ford also is ready to get to blocking and mauling opponents on the line. He is eager and ready to begin also as the ‘fat boys’ hope to play a huge role in the team’s success.

“That actually started way before I got here,” Ford said of the ‘fat boys’ nickname for the linemen.

“My freshman year we had guys like Chase Franklin, Dale Treadway, Reney Cordial and I learned a lot from those guys and especially last year with (Jacob) Whitt and (Jacob) Nutter and all those seniors, there was a lot of stuff I needed to see so I could follow in their footsteps and play West football,” Ford added.

“We love football. We will play whoever, whenever, we love it man,” Ford stated.

“Can’t wait,” Keener echoed.
