ALDERSON W.Va. (WVDN) – Following a recent council meeting, Alderson Mayor, Travis Copenhaver, issued an update on the ongoing water line and water plant projects. The following is his statement:

“In this past Thursday’s council meeting, we made the water project work schedule official.

“The water plant project will go out for bid on Thursday, July 25, 2024. There will be a pre-bid conference on Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Bid will be opened on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Information can be obtained once the project is out for bid for prospective bidders.

“The water line and upgrade project is anticipated to be released for bid sixty days after the bids go out for the plant project and will have the same timeline as outlined above for the time from bid publication to bid opening.

“Our staff and the project team have been working to overcome several setbacks in the line project. Our right-of-way agent died unexpectedly and left a void for the rest of the team to pick up. Further, to avoid condemnation and eminent domain, we have been working with solutions to not only save money but time with the project.

“These are huge projects and have taken years to be where we are. We are fortunate to have been able to secure 100% of the water plant project in multiple grant funds. This will move our plant out of the floodplain and replace a beyond-end-of-life plant in one move with the least impact on our customers.

“We will have more information as it is available. If you are still holding your application for service in the new customer area, now is the time to get them in to receive the hook-up discount.”
