Area Catholic Picnic set for July 21 at Greenbrier State Forest

GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – Catholics and their families are invited to join the Greenbrier Valley Council 8689 Knights of Columbus for an area picnic and afternoon of fun at Shelter #1 of the picnic area in Greenbrier State Forest, five miles south of the I-64 Caldwell/White Sulphur Springs exit #175, on July 21 beginning at 2 p.m. hamburgers and hot dogs, all the “fixings,” sodas and bottled water, paper products will be provided by the Knights with those attending asked to add to the table with side dishes, salads or desserts.

West Virginia School of Osteopathic Chef Paul Ciciora will be preparing the hamburgers and hot dogs. Ciciora is a member of the GV Knights Council and has volunteered to provide this service for several years.

In addition, those attending are also asked to bring board games and outdoor yard games.

Highlighting the picnic at 4 p.m. will be a vesper service as organized by Msgr. Kevin Michael Quirk, newly appointed pastor for St. Catherine of Siena Church in Ronceverte, St. Charles Borromeo Church in White Sulphur Springs, and the mission churches St. Louis, King of France, Lewisburg; Church of Mary Immaculate, Williamsburg; and St. John, the Evangelist Chapel in Sweet Springs.

Other churches served by the Greenbrier Valley Council include Sacred Heart Church in Rainelle and its mission, Sacred Heart in Spring Dale, Fayette County; St. John Neuman in Marlinton; St. Bernard’s at Snowshoe and St. Mark, the Evangelist, in Bartow.

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest organization of Catholic men and the Greenbrier Valley Council is the largest Catholic men’s organization in the Valley.  An active auxiliary is also organized with the GV Council.
