WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – White Sulphur Springs native, Cindy O’Quinn, is the first writer from the Spa City to win the coveted Bram Stoker Award® for superior achievement in the Short Fiction category. Her story, “Quondam,” can be found on Amazon in the anthology, “The Nightmare Never Ends,” edited by Jennifer Bernardini, and published by Exploding Head Fiction. The Bram Stoker Award® is one of, if not the most, prestigious awards granted to horror writers worldwide. O’Quinn is now in the company of other Bram Stoker Award®-winning authors such as Stephen King, Tananarive Due, Linda D. Addison, Peter Straub, George R.R. Martin, and Jamie Flanagan.
O’Quinn primarily writes Appalachian Folk Horror based on her experiences in West Virginia with an added horror twist. She attributes her love of all things spooky to her mother, who started her out at a young age. They went to the local drive-in theater to watch all the scary movies in the ’70s and ’80s. O’Quinn is also deeply inspired by her favorite horror author, Stephen King, whose books she has read since she was 11.
