BECKLEY- After a deep run a year ago, the Central Greenbrier all-stars are headed back to the state tournament after a 10-2 win over Princeton that captured the District 4 title in the process.
After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first, Central Greenbrier answered with three runs in the bottom half and then scored four more in the third to take a commanding 7-1 lead that would never waver.
Michael Boothe blasted two home runs on the evening and struck out 13 Princeton batters in just four innings for a dominant all-round performance. He also scored three runs and knocked in four more.
Peyton Ervin went 3-3 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI to lead the team in hitting. Ervin finished out the contest on the mound as well and struck out three batters in two hitless innings when Boothe reached his pitch count limit. James Godby was 2-2 with a run scored and Carter Huffman also scored twice.
Even though Princeton lost, they will also play in the state tournament on July 18 in Chapmanville when opening ceremonies begin. The games will start on July 19.
