LEWISBURG- No matter who steps in the opposing team dugout to take them on, the Central Greenbrier 12-U all-stars have been a buzzsaw so far this tournament season.

With a perfect record of 3-0, CG has yet to allow a single run against them while pouring in 29 runs themselves. They defeated Bluefield 15-0, Shady 10-0, and on Saturday, June 29, they shutout Princeton 4-0 and that victory secured a spot in the state tournament.

Saturday’s bout with Princeton did present Central Greenbrier with their biggest challenge by far, but it still was not big enough for the team to overcome.

Carter Huffman threw a complete game, 2-hitter and had 13 strikeouts against a team that had averaged 12 runs per game coming into the contest. Huffman never got into any kind of major jam as he cruised along all day outside of the second inning when Princeton had runners on first and third with two outs, but Huffman ended the frame with a strikeout swinging.

Central Greenbrier took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Acen Workman capped a 2-out rally with a 2-run single. Michael Boothe and Hendo Bostic scored on the play, and with Huffman’s performance, that was all that would be needed.

Central added two insurance runs in the third when Boothe ripped a 2-run double to center as that would ultimately be the final score.

Boothe (2-3, run, 2 RBIs) and Workman (1-2, 2 RBIs) ended up leading the way for Central Greenbrier.
