CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Charleston Distance Run (CDR) Committee has selected Appalachian Timing Group to provide race timing services for its 2024 events.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Appalachian Timing Group for the 2024 Charleston Distance Run,” said Carol Phipps Haid, CDR Race Director. “Their expertise and cutting-edge technology will elevate the race experience for race participants and spectators.”
For the first time, this year’s race participants will experience finish line pictures and video, MYLAPS BibTag System, which has the highest read-rates in the industry, email or text notifications for race spectators with the ability to utilize GPS tracking, and a new half-marathon timing mat sponsored by Zachwieja Workman Architects.
“As local runners ourselves, we understand the importance of accurate timing and a seamless race day experience,” said Ricky Campbell, Appalachian Timing Group Owner. “We’re proud to be a part of the Charleston Distance Run and look forward to contributing to its success.”
APTiming comprises local runners based in Huntington, West Virginia, and Frankfort, Kentucky. Since 2015, the group has timed more than 750 races.
The 51st anniversary of the Charleston Distance Run is set to take place on Saturday, August 31, 2024. The scenic 15-mile course through West Virginia’s capital city challenges individual and relay runners and walkers with heat, humidity, and hills. The race has been held on the Saturday before Labor Day since 1973; a flat and fast five-kilometer run and walk was added in 1993. In recent years, the event has drawn upwards of 800 participants from throughout the state and across the country.
