Lewisburg, WVa. (WVDN) – Carnegie Hall’s May/June Exhibits continue with three galleries showcasing the works of regional artists. The Museum Gallery (adjacent to the Hamilton Auditorium) features “Echoes of a Discordant Nature” by Ian Haggerty.

Ian Hagarty is an artist based in Huntington, WV, and a professor within the School of Art & Design at Marshall University. He earned an MFA (Painting) from Indiana University, an MAT (K-12 Art Education), and a BFA (Painting), both from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

His work has been exhibited widely throughout the United States and Europe, featured in venues such as the Jones-Carter Gallery at ArtFields (South Carolina), the Juliet Art Museum (WV), the Huntington Museum of Art (WV), and the Palazzo Bembo – European Cultural Centre in Venice (Italy) during the 59th Venice Biennale. It has been shown at numerous international art fairs, such as Art Karlsruhe (Germany), Art Verona (Italy), Artefiera Bologna (Italy), the YIA art fairs in Paris (France) and Brussels (Belgium), as well as the START Art Fair at the Saatchi Gallery in London (United Kingdom). Solo, two-person, and three-person exhibitions presenting his work have been held at the galleries River and CES in Los Angeles (California), 2731 Prospect in Cleveland (Ohio), Montoro 12 in Rome (Italy), Sincresis Arte in Empoli (Italy), and the Espacio de Creación Contemporánea in Cádiz (Spain).

He has been a resident artist at multiple residencies in Spain and Italy, including the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica Venezia. He has been awarded two of the most prestigious research awards at Marshall University – the Marshall University Distinguished Artists & Scholars Award at both the Junior and Senior levels (in all fields, 2022 & 2014), as well as the John Marshall University Creative Scholar & Research Award (2022 & 2018). In 2021, he was awarded and Individual Artist Grant by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture & History, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the state of West Virginia.

Prior to his appointment at Marshall University, he has held teaching positions at the University of Georgia, where he was awarded a Franklin College Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellowship with support from the Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education and the Herron School of Art & Design at Indiana University Indianapolis. In addition to his appointment as a professor at Marshall University, Hagarty also serves on the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Institute of International Studies (KIIS), where he has been a Program Director for study abroad programs in Italy since 2015, leading ten programs consecutively. In addition, he has also led two study abroad programs in Florence for Marshall University through CAPA and was a Visiting Assistant Professor for the University of Georgia – Cortona, Italy Study Abroad Program in 2008.

The exhibits are free and open to the public, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and run through the end of June. For more information, please visit carnegiehallwv.org, call (304) 645-7917, or stop by the Hall at 611 Church Street, Lewisburg, WV.

Carnegie Hall programs are presented with financial assistance through a grant from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
