WINSTON SALEM- The Greenbrier East Spartans boys’ basketball team just recently completed a nice road trip to Wake Forest University from June 12-15 and participated in the Wake Forest basketball camp. East played local teams from North Carolina and also teams from Tennessee and South Carolina. In all, the Spartans played eight games and finished with a solid record of 5-3.
Coach Jared Patton was extremely pleased with how his team played and said it could have been even better.
“Kids played great,” Patton said.
“One thing that was a non-negotiable this week was that they were to compete for the full length of the game. If we would have had a couple more shots go in, we would have been undefeated for the camp. We lost three games by a combined total of 10 points,” Patton added.
The head coach believes camps during the summer are important for team camaraderie and chemistry.
“We had a good time this week. I think it’s very important for the players to have some time together to gel for the upcoming season,” Patton stated.
Assistant coach Dave “Diamond” Austin also joined the team in Carolina, and he too was pleased with how the team played.
