At The Racing Track
The track at the Greenbrier Valley Fair Ground is a very busy place just now. There are, at present, sixteen head of harness horses in training there, divided about equally between four stables. The extreme wet weather has prevented the boys from using the track as often as they would like, but the turf track has been in constant use and all of the horses are being jogged every day.
Reduced The Price
Miss Frances Sine, 35 years old, who recently sued Noah Wright in the Marion County courts for $100,000 for alleged heart laccrations sustained when Wright, who is 71 years old, changed his mind in regard to making the lady his bride, has agreed to accept a reduction of $95,000 for the settlement of her claim on a cash basis.
Jury Said $15,000
Fifteen thousand dollars was fixed as the price a man should pay who takes the best ten years of the life of a young woman and then drops her into the discard with those others who had preceded her for a time in the limelight of his affections by a jury of citizens of Marion County last week. The jurors decided that she was entitled to something for the “wasted years” and they placed the value of her time at a figure that comes to about $1,500 per year.

Antique Show
The Lewisburg House and Garden Club will sponsor an antique show in Si Preston’s barn on Court Street in Lewisburg, June 16-18. The antique show promises to be both varied and interesting as there are quite a number of dealers expected to exhibit.
Youth Escapes Death
Laddie Dixon, Williamsburg High School junior, 14 years of age, narrowly escaped death in an accident at Wiliamsburg, and is a patient in the Greenbrier Valley Hospital, Ronceverte. He was critically burned and shocked as the result of contacting an electric power line when he climbed a tree to recover a cap which had been tossed in it by a schoolmate. The boy was rescued from the tree, where he was held for several minutes, by a brother who secured rubber gloves and instruction for rescue from a Williamsburg physician.
Successful Crow Hunt
Alderson town policeman C. E. Hall, Deputy Sheriff Curtis Shawyer and Sgt. Ballard of the State Police went crow hunting in the vicinity of Williamsburg. The officers had excellent luck, they killed 64 crows and wounded several.

Lewisburg Fire Station Dedicated
The official dedication of the Lewisburg Fire Station on Foster Street was held Saturday morning with past and present city officials, members of the Lewisburg Improvement Corporation, and members of the Lewisburg Volunteer Fire Department taking part in the ceremony. Mayor Michael McHale welcome those attending, then turned the podium over to former Mayor William S. Coleman who introduced members of the Lewisburg Improvement Corporation as the men who made the building of the firehouse possible. “They were courageous enough to sign notes for $5,000 each, “he said, “so that we could go ahead with the building.”

Israel and Syria signed a formal agreement to separate their warring armies in the Golan Heights, bringing the troubled Middle East a step closer to durable peace.
Nixon Wants Case Reviewed
President Nixon is attempting, through his lawyers, to avoid an early Supreme Court decision whether he must turn over tapes and documents to Watergate prosecutors. Immediately at issue are tapes and documents bearing on 64 White House conversations. But the broader issue – whether a president is subject to criminal court subpoenas – involves the basic separation of powers between the presidency and judicial branch.

Manchester Runs Write-In Campaign
A third individual filed as a candidate in the Lewisburg mayoral race, challenging the two women who have already announced their candidacy. John Manchester, who is director of communications at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, filed as a write-in candidate for mayor on May 25. He is the former mayor of Falling Springs (Renick). Both DeEtta King Hunter, who currently serves on the city council, and Dorcus Teubert were nominated by the city’s nonpartisan political parties.
Eastern Hemlock Under Attack In Area
The Eastern hemlock has been reported under attack by Hemlock Wolly Adelgid in the Lewisburg area. The wooly adelgid quickly damages and weakens hemlock trees and can kill the tree over a period of 3-5 years. Control of this insect is possible with thorough drenching of infested trees using any one of a number of chemical insecticides.
