Oliver Hypes Spinks Sr., 85, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, at his home in White Sulphur Springs, after a long illness.
He was born on May 24, 1933, in Alvon, WV, to the late Lonie and Vernard Spinks.
Oliver retired from the United Mine Workers and the United Steel Workers Union after 30 years of dedicated service. Oliver served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and he served his family as a loving husband and as a trusting and respected father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Marie Spinks; a daughter, Kathy Dillion; brothers, Jimmy Spinks and Marvin Spinks; and his sister, Wanda Scott, all of White Sulphur Springs.
Survivors include his daughters, Glenna “Cookie” Wiant (Richard “Dick”), Sandy Holsten (Gary), Dessie McClung, and Margaret Dolin; his sons, Oliver Jr. “Buck” Spinks (Bonnie), Danny Spinks (Kelly) , all of White Sulphur Springs, and Chris Spinks (Midori) of Minneapolis, MN; sisters, Etta Ayers, Sharon Dudley, both of White Sulphur Springs, and Barbara Smith of Covington, VA; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church, 20 Ingleside Ave, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens in Lewisburg. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Richard Wiant Jr., Gary McClung, Kevin McClung, Jordan Spinks, Wesley Spinks, Bradley Spinks, and Nathan Weese.
Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
