Geraldine S. Mosley

Geraldine S. Mosley, lovingly called Geral, took God’s Hand on the beautiful Sunday morning of April 28, 2024, at the age of 92.

She was born on September 12, 1931, in Kitts, KY, the oldest of three children. She was blessed with two children: a daughter, Debra, and son, Curtis. Geraldine attended Stratton High School, where she was a majorette in the band. After graduation, she worked at The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV, where she met the love of her life, Frank Walker Mosely, and shared 59 years of marriage. She later took a job at the Women’s Federal Prison in Alderson, WV, as a Correction’s Officer and retired after 20 years of service.

Geraldine was a faithful member, and later became Mother, of the Church at the House of Prayer in White Sulphur Springs, WV, under the leadership of Pastor Yvette Wilmer.

Geraldine had many talents. She played the piano, organ, and guitar and was extremely talented in arts and crafts. She learned to enjoy painting and won many blue ribbons at the West Virginia State Fair. Geraldine was an excellent cook, loved baking, and wrote a cookbook. She also sold Avon for many years, belonged to the Lion’s Club, West Virginia Garden Club, and was the first African American to hold the office of Vice President of the Federation Women’s Club in West Virginia. If anybody knew Mrs. Mosley, they knew how much she loved her soap operas!

Geraldine was predeceased by her husband, Frank Walker Mosley; son, Curtis Edward Smith; mother, Mattie Sanders; father, Robert Sanders; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde (Bessie) Sanders and Billy (Virginia) Sanders.

She leaves to forever cherish her memory, daughter, Debra Smith-Ligons; step-son, Anthony Mosley; grandchildren, Patricia, Krys, and Joel Viney, Sierra Shelor, and Tiffany Mosley; great-grandchildren, John Marshall, Alyka Fenderson, Jashon Jones, Micah Viney, Kendrick Johnson, Kash Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Jaden Moyer, Jeremiah Marshall, Ashton Blankenship, Jaylin Marshall, Nya Marshall, Kahlany Marshall, Emilino Zapata, and Mhalia Glenn; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Family will receive friends Saturday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 142 Church St., White Sulphur Springs, WV, where funeral will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. Greg Scott officiating. Interment will be at Greenhill Cemetery, White Sulphur Springs.
