NEW RICHMOND- This week, the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans went 3-1, and despite that one loss to Chapmanville on Friday, East’s offense was electric and put on a show all week long.

They capped the week on Saturday, April 13 when they jumped on the Wyoming East Lady Warriors early and often and cruised to a dominating 25-2 victory.

In the top of the first, East’s Alanis McClary grounded out and the game started like any other. However, the next batter, Hailey Ervin, grounded to second base and reached on an error by the Warriors’ Kendra Cook.

The floodgates then proceeded to open.

Two consecutive walks, a 2-run double from Lily Carola, two more RBI doubles from Aly Martin and Gracie Gumm, and five singles later, had the Spartans (10-6) on top 12-0 after one inning and the thought of a three-inning mercy rule game at stake.

Wyoming East got one run back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Spartans went to work again in the second.

Jenna Groves led off with a two-bagger and three batters later, Taylor Boswell drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Groves. A sac fly from Kayla Bartley and another Wyoming East error had East in the lead 16-1 after two frames.

The Spartans decided to go ahead and grab nine more runs in the third and final inning. They got good production from some reserves that have not played a ton this year. Bailey Birchfield hit an RBI double, Madelyn Podsiadlik did the same, and Norah Ambler ripped an RBI single that brought Podsiadlik across home plate. Liz Wooding finished off the game’s scoring with a bloop 2-run single as the Spartans raced to their win.

Ervin, Martin, Groves, and Wooding all had multiple hits. Boswell led the team with four runs scored and four RBIs. Martin drove in three and Carola and Bartley each had two RBIs.

Carola got the win in the pitcher’s circle as well. She went two innings, gave up only one hit, and struck out seven.
