WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS W.Va. (WVDN) – 50 East Casual Dining & Spirits Restaurant has been a staple to the community of White Sulphur Springs for over 12 years. Tom Crabtree has always been there for his neighbors, serving great food and giving back, especially during the flood of 2016 when they provided hundreds of daily meals to victims, workers and others.
Recently, the transition of the sale of the restaurant, which includes an upscale “tasting room,” carry-out and catering, is headed by Chef Stephen Gustard and his partner Delphine Houssin. Both have extensive culinary experience that will offer the public gastronomic surprises and delicacies. They will open to the public on Thursday, April 4, 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
Gustard was employed by The Greenbrier Resort as an experienced chef from 2001-2004 and graduated from their apprenticeship program, which ultimately led him to purchase the restaurant. Gustard’s Bistro will offer a casual, upscale dining experience. Described as French cooking with an Appalachian flare, both lunch and dinner will be served with new menu items such as tapas and delicious handcrafted recipes. The menu will have a complete overhaul focusing on using local ingredients such as meats from Mountain Steer Company and produce from local farmers. As he and Houssin wade through responsibilities, the excitement for what’s to come will undoubtedly fuel their success. This is just one more example of neighbors helping neighbors, using fresh ingredients as local products will be transformed into delectable fare.
The tasting room will remain a special gathering space and upscale dining experience that will reopen in May. As for the restaurant itself, the new hours will be Monday (closed Tuesdays) through Sunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. The restaurant is located at 759 E. Main Street, White Sulphur Springs. The phone number is 304-536-2274.
