LEWISBURG- Not many people know that banks hire seven-year-olds, but in the case of Elizabeth Dodd, a local Universal Banker in Lewisburg, that is exactly what one has done.
Okay, so maybe you won’t see a young child running around behind the counter, but it is the truth.
Dodd is a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1996. So, even though she technically just turned 28 years old, she can also identify as a rowdy little seven-year-old if her heart desires.
In case you are wondering what day Dodd celebrates her birthday in non-leap years, she likes to do it a day earlier thanks to a request from her parents.
“I celebrate on Feb 28th when there isn’t a 29th. My mom and dad wanted me to be able to remember my birthday, so they wanted me to celebrate it in February,” Dodd said.
This year, however, there is a Feb. 29, and typically the tradition remains the same.
“When there is a Feb. 29th, we don’t do anything too major. We usually just get my whole family together and go out for a big dinner,” Dodd stated.
While being born on a leap year has its perks and its fascinating storylines, Dodd never realized how unique she was until she was older and able to appreciate it a little more.
“When I was younger, I hated my birthday because I was always having to explain it to my friends or random people that had asked me,” Dodd explained.
“But now that I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown to appreciate it and love seeing people’s faces when I explain to them what leap year is and how I only have a birthday every four years. And honestly, I have never really sat down and thought about how lucky I am to have gotten such a unique birthday,” she added.
STORY NOTE- On Thursday night, Feb. 29, Dodd will be out to eat for a co-worker’s going away dinner at Mi Tequila, rather than the traditional family dinner for her special day. That has been rescheduled for Feb. 29, 2028.
