George Louchlin MacKinnon,75, took his ethereal flight peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, August 3, 2018, in Lewisburg, WV.
George was a dedicated husband, father, friend, storyteller and Mr. Fix Anything. George, or Pops, was born on July 24, 1943, and spent his childhood in Norfolk, CT. He served overseas in Vietnam in the United States Air Force and worked tirelessly as an aircraft mechanic for U.S. Airways for 30 years.
George married his best friend, Laurie Chapman MacKinnon, on July 15, 1982. They enjoyed a full life together, enjoying both the simplicity of life as well as many adventures, including travel and motorcycling. They lived together in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and most recently, West Virginia. He proudly earned his private pilot license in 2017 and loved flying.
George was genuine, kind, wise, intelligent, goofy, patient and had an incredible appreciation for life. His greatest assemblage was his wonderful family, whose memories and love will transcend his physical absence.
He was the youngest of four brothers and is survived by his oldest brother, Francis; three beloved daughters and their spouses, Kellie and Chris Von Elten, Kristle and Dennis Powell, and Lottie and Matthew Schottmiller. His grandchildren were the light of his life, Grace Von Elten, 18, Sam Von Elten, 16, Natalie Von Elten, 10, Deborah Powell, 14, Chloe Schottmiller, 4, and Emmett Schottmiller, 2.
In lieu of a funeral service, his family will plant a tree with his ashes in October.
