Ernest V. “Pete” Holliday, 81, of Quinwood, WV, passed away peacefully Friday, August 3, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.
Born June 1, 1937, at Meadow Bluff, WV, he was the son of Charles and Bertha Hizer Holliday.
Pete worked as a coal miner for Meadow River Lumber Company and for Campbell Contracting Company. He enjoyed gardening, talking to neighbors and his brother Neal “Leo.” Pete was a Christian.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 31 years, Ruby Burdette Holliday; and five brothers, Bill, Ralph, Roy Lee, Carel, and Sam Holliday.
Survivors include his loving son, Clell and wife, Charlotte, of Quinwood; three brothers, Jim Holliday (Jean) of Michigan, David Holliday (Doris) of Crawley, WV, and Neal “Leo” (Debbie) of Clintonville, WV; two grandchildren, Sarah Holliday and Cassandra Shipe (Darrell); two great-grandchildren, Grant and Garrett Shipe; four sisters-in-law, Nadie Holliday, Rita Holliday, Maxine Rhodes, and Ruby Holliday; and a host of extended family and friends.
Friends may call Monday, August 6, from 6 – 8 p.m. with a service beginning at 7 p.m. with Neal “Leo” Holliday and Pastor Chad Rhodes officiating.
Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, in the Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to the Quinwood Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 186, Quinwood, WV 25981.
