CRAWLEY W.Va. (WVDN) – At Leggacy Farm, Carol and Barry Legg, began their journey into the wild and wonderful that our State boasts as its motto. The dream is unfolding bee by bee, flower by flower and stone by stone. Although living on their farm isn’t new, the dream is to accept visitors for pick-your-own berries and flowers, learning about their apiaries and honey tastings, having a ‘forest bath’ and wood walks is coming to fruition. The name of the farm is not only taken from their surname but is a term perfectly fitted for their aspirations of giving their children and grandchildren a place where they can thrive and be at one with nature.
Located just off Interstate Rt. 64 in Crawley, the 50+ acre farm is a budding delight for the senses. Barry runs the heavy equipment moving rocks, trees and the like, is busy building their house and working on straw bale homes, etc. while Carol focuses on her love of Dahlias, peafowl and beekeeping. Leggs’ flowers adorn tables and rooms at The Historic General Lewis Inn. Her farm fresh eggs can be found at Swift Level Fine Meats. She grows herbs for her wellness teas made with fungi such as Lions Mane, Reishi and Turkey Tail. Infusing the medicinal properties of the mushrooms and herbs into soothing teas with names like “All Good, Wake & Bake, Chill Out and What a Relief ”, you can be sure that your senses are satiated. Carol has found over 40 kinds of fungi growing naturally near boulders and her 2 running creeks and makes good use of all of nature’s bounty.
What more can you find at local farmers markets from Leggacy Farm? Magnesium Butter, Holy Basil Moisturizer, Calendula Soothing Salve and lip balm and an anti-aging, whipped eye cream. Discover fresh-cut, wildly elegant flowers available in bouquets or buckets. You can sign up for a subscription and enjoy them weekly or monthly. The Lewisburg Farmers Market can be found in Spring/Summer at 850 Maplewood Ave, Lewisburg, WV. Carol hopes to branch out to other markets this year and attends the winter market at The WV State Fairgrounds.
The goal of becoming a destination for children and adults alike is underway. You can adore five peacocks that grace the acreage, hover at nucs buzzing with honey bees, take a ‘Forest Bath’ by wandering in the wooded areas, walking near the flowing waterways, or stroll amongst the fields of magnificent flowers. The Leggs’ hope to entice visitors to experience solitude, find peace and connect with nature as it was intended. Two more missions will be to offer a wedding/occasion venue and a pick-your-own berry farm. They will work on structures and planting blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. It’s all a work in progress. Also to offer children’s foraging workshops and field trips.
