Juanita Grey Loudermilk Hodges

Juanita Grey Loudermilk Hodges, 92, of Ronceverte, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at Lewisburg Healthcare Center, after a short illness, with her daughters by her side. Juanita was born on April 21, 1931, in Spring Creek, WV, and was a daughter of the late Fred Loudermilk and Gladys Neal Henning Loudermilk.

She graduated from Frankford High School in 1949. She was a faithful member of the Ronceverte First Church of God, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for many years, and was a lifetime member of the Women of the First Church of God. In support of her husband’s and son’s many years as volunteer firemen, she was a founding member of the Ronceverte Volunteer Firemenettes for approximately 50 years.

Prior to her primary role of homemaker, she worked at Leggett’s Department Store, Barr’s Variety Store, and Richmond’s Flower Shop. In addition to caring for her children full-time, she provided childcare services to her grandchildren and two other children who became a very special part of her family’s life – Chris Hedrick and Allison Holliday Baker.

Hobbies included playing Bingo at the local fire department and going to Myrtle Beach with family. She was an avid follower of West Virginia University and Greenbrier East High School sports programs, as well as the band programs for the local middle and high schools. Through joint efforts, John and Juanita raised a plentiful garden each year and received much joy out of sharing it with friends, family, and neighbors.

In addition to her parents, Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Hodges (married in 1953); one brother, Ralph Loudermilk; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Glen and Helen Crowder Hodges, E. B. and Belle Morgan Hodges, Julian and Lois Hodges Sams, Wanda Hodges, Charlie and Mabel Hodges Robinson.

She is survived by a son, Freddie Hodges (Nancy) of Ronceverte, WV; two daughters, Brenda Beard (Stewart) of Ronceverte, WV and Patricia (Aaron) Moody of Asbury, WV; three grandchildren, Adam Moody (Rachel) of Asbury, WV, Jessica Knight (Rob) of Charlottesville, VA, and John Beard of Charleston, WV; five great-grandchildren, Johnathan Knight, Ayden Moody, Sophia Knight, Lillian Moody, and Christian Shrewsbury; sister, Peggy Loudermilk, of Morgantown, WV; sister-in-law, Norma Loudermilk of Christiansburg, VA; special cousin, Martha Lee Burns; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 4, 2024, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Chapel in Ronceverte, WV, with Rev. Bob Daniels, Rev. Robert Hefner, Jr., and Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Ronceverte, WV.

Pallbearers will be Rob Knight, Adam Moody, John Beard, Rick Hodges, Heath Bennett, and Keith Dolan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Peek, Bill Hodges, Ronald Porterfield, Pete Cooper, Dale Campbell, and Larry Counts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ronceverte First Church of God, 210 North Avenue, Ronceverte, WV 24970 or the Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department, 722 Ronceverte Avenue, Ronceverte, WV 24970.

The family would like to thank staff at Lewisburg Healthcare Center and Dr. Connie Anderson for the care provided to their mother.

Please send online condolences by visiting www.WallaceandWallaceFH.com.

Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Ronceverte is in charge of arrangements.
