GREENBRIER COUNTY W.Va. (WVDN) – The annual Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive, providing new toys as gifts for children in the Meadow River and Greenbrier Valley area, once again has been very successful.

Davis, who grew up in the Rainelle area, spent his working career in the District of Columbia and would, each Christmas season, bring a pickup truck loaded with toys for the children in the Western Greenbrier and Eastern Fayette counties area.

Upon his untimely death, relatives and friends of Davis have continued his mission with the Donald Davis Memorial Toy Drive which distributes toys to area children who might not otherwise have a gift on Christmas morning.

With the support of the parishioners of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rainelle, St. Catherine of Siena in Ronceverte, St. Charles Borromeo in White Sulphur Springs, the Greenbrier Valley Council Knights of Columbus, the relatives and friends were able to collect the over 100 plus toys.

In addition, the Greenbrier Valley Knights of Columbus distributed 98 new coats for children in need through the local elementary-age children in Rainelle, Rupert, Alderson and Meadow Bridge areas in cooperation with the Donald Davis Memorial Toy distribution as well as in cooperation with the Frankford and Ronceverte Elementary Schools, St. John Neuman Catholic Church in Marlinton, Family Resource Network in Pocahontas County and the Family Resource Network in Monroe County.

Gently used winter gear for all ages was also collected by the Knights and distributed to those in need through the Wellspring of Western Greenbrier; Lewisburg/Fairlea Food Locker, and the Family Resource Network in Monroe County.

Proceeds from the Lenten Fish Dinners sponsored by the Knights of Columbus fund the distribution of the new and used winter clothing and gear and toys by the Knights.

The Greenbrier Valley Council Knights of Columbus is composed of Catholic men in Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Monroe and eastern Fayette counties and is assisted by members of the Auxiliary of the Knights.

For information on the Knights, contact Mike Williams at 304-645-1373 or the office of the Catholic Churches of the Greenbrier Valley at 304-536-1813.
