Coldest Weather In Five Years
The coldest weather since the first of the year 1918 was experienced in this section last Saturday night and Sunday morning. The town of Lewisburg was placed in a serious position by the freezing of the main water line between Caldwell and Lewisburg resulting in that town being without water for several days.

Community Concert
Igor Gorin, considered by many to be the best male singer of our time, will appear in Lewisburg at Carnegie Hall in the third concert of the Community Concert program, January 19. He and his wife will arrive at Ronceverte on the 5:30 p.m. C & O January 18. With them will be Hendrick Endt, Mr. Gorin’s accompanist.
Survey Of Flood Control
Engineers from the U. S. Government Engineer’s office in Huntington have been registered at the hotel in East Rainelle for the past several days, and are engaged in making surveys for flood control for the Western Greenbrier area. Flood control for that area which not only affects East Rainelle, McRoss, Charmco, Hines and Rupert, but also disastrously affects a large farming area up Meadow River in the Crawley, Smoot, Dawson and Grassy Meadow areas, has long been sought by local residents.

Plans are underway to kick off GEHS’s 1974 Football Season on the New Athletic Field. The new stadium has a seating capacity 4,350 – 3,000 on the home side and 1,350 for visitors – which should easily accommodate all the area’s present sports enthusiasts. For your donation of $25 you will receive a reserved seat in the Spartan Booster Section for all GEHS Varsity events played during the 1974-75 season in the new stadium. If your donation of $25 is renewed each year for a total of five years this seat will be reserved for you for LIFE upon the timely purchase each year thereafter of a season ticket. In other words, it becomes “YOUR” seat.
Shortage Work Of Oil Companies
There is a rising belief on Capitol Hill that the oil shortage is primarily the work of U. S. petroleum companies rather than the Arab embargo.
As a result, Congress is likely to be in what one source describes as a “punitive mood” when it returns from recess, and the oil industry could be in for a very tough time in the months ahead.

Planners Approve Preliminary Plat For Northridge Professional Park
Although the Lewisburg Planning Commission had advertised that a public meeting would be held on Thursday evening concerning a site plan review for the proposed Northridge Professional Park, it did not take place. Instead, the planners reviewed and approved a preliminary plat for the project. The proposed project includes a Texaco station, fast food restaurant and food mart complex.
State Fair Plans To Create Farmers’ Market
The State Fair of West Virginia plans to create a Farmers’ Market at the fairgrounds beginning in the spring. The program is being started to provide local farmers and home gardeners with easy, direct access to customers who are seeking fresh produce or other agricultural items.
FHLB Makes Donation To Habitat For Humanity
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLB) recently make a contribution to Greenbrier Habitat for Humanity. Tom Bulla, president and CEO of First National Bank and also a member of the FHLB’s board of directors, made the presentation. The money will be used to purchase materials for the next home the organization is building.
