FAIRLEA, WV- The Greenbrier East Lady Spartans snapped their 3-game losing skid in a big way and defeated the Riverside Lady Warriors 72-32 on Tuesday night, Dec. 19.
With the victory, East moved to 4-3 and will now enjoy a short Christmas break before returning home on Dec. 26 and 27 for the Holiday Tournament in Fairlea. East led 21-2 after the first quarter and 32-15 at halftime.
The Spartans jumped out to that 19-point lead in the first quarter, and although the Warriors never truly went away, East held a big advantage throughout the contest thanks in large part to its defense which forced 28 Warrior turnovers.
The game was also called tight by the officials as a total of 52 free throws were shot in the game. Riverside converted 15 of theirs while the Spartans connected on 13.
Jada Waller led East with 21 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Ava Workman, a defensive force all night long, netted 16 points and 5 steals. Liz Wooding and Kenedy Stewart each had 10 points for East. Mackenna McClure (5 points, 6 assists, 7 rebounds) and Hannah Fuller 6 points, 7 reb, 2 blocks) also played extremely well.
For Riverside (0-4), Laila Campbell scored 13 points and Ava Ward got a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
East shot 39 percent from the field for the game and the Warriors were held to an ice cold 20 percent shooting night.
UP NEXT- Greenbrier East plays Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 26 and 27, in the Holiday Tournament at home.
