Layuna Brown Rapp
Layuna Brown Rapp, 92, of Renick, passed away on December 8, 2023. She was born on April 24, 1931, to Butler and Ora Brown in Frankford, WV. She was raised on the family’s dairy farm, instilling in her a strong will and work ethic.
Layuna was the owner and operator of Rapp’s Drapery and Decorating for over forty-two years. She was self-taught in interior design and decorating. Her decorating passion was sparked by taking a millinery class when she was young. Layuna’s exquisite interior designs can be found in her countless red sketch books and in numerous places throughout the local area, including The Homestead Resort and several homes in The Greenbrier Sporting Club.
She was a loving mother to her three children, Debbie Rapp, David Rapp, and Beverly Rapp, all of Renick. Layuna was a proud grandmother to her three grandchildren, Jason Gillilan of Renick, Brandy Rapp and fiancé, George Lemon, of Roanoke, VA, and Ashley and husband, Patrick Parker, of Lewisburg; and thoroughly enjoyed her three great-grandsons, James, Jackson, and Carson.
Layuna remained active in the community into her final years. She was instrumental in founding the Renick Community Center and took great pride in the many good deeds it did for the local community.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Burke Rapp, who passed away unexpectedly in 1975; and six of her sisters, Lucille Carstetter, Lorriane White, Laverne Perry, Louise McSwain, Lois Atkins, and Lorretta Rapp.
Left to cherish Layuna’s life are her three sisters, Lillian Skaff of Charleston, WV, Lena Baldwin of Buffalo, NY, and Lynda Mellert of Riverview, FL.
Layuna was a longtime faithful member of the Lewisburg congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A memorial service will be held on December 16, 2023, at 2 p.m. at The Kingdom Hall that is located at 30986 Midland Trail East, Lewisburg, WV.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Peyton Hospice House for the loving care and dedication to Layuna in her final days.
Layuna gave orders like no other. We will miss being told what to do and how to do it. We will always love her deeply.
