Melanie Cox, career stylist, educator and salon owner, is a graduate of Highland Beauty Academy in Covington, Virginia. She entered the beauty industry in 1990. Over the next nine years, she worked in Ohio, Virginia and Georgia. Then, in 1999, Cox moved to her current hometown of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Working for a veteran cosmetologist from 2003, she worked toward her goal of purchasing a building to house her new salon in 2007. Since that time, Cox has had the opportunity to become a National Certified Instructor for the State of West Virginia, an Educator for Z-One Concept USA and an educator and sales consultant for Economy Beauty Supply (@ebeautyprofessional) of Bristol, Tennessee.
Cox’s father, a retired barber of 51 years, directly influenced her career. He encouraged her to “Learn everything,” advice she took to heart. The stylist regales a go-to-quote by Henry Thoreau: “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.“
Styles & Profiles Salon is at 427 Main St., N. White Sulphur Springs. The business hours are Monday 1-5:30 p.m., and Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Saturday is by appointment only, usually reserved for special occasions such as weddings, prom nights or consultations.
