Marjorie Lee McVey Lobban, 88, of Alderson, WV, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, WV, surrounded by her loving family members.
She was born January 1, 1930, at home in Alderson, to H. Rodgers McVey and Gretis Lee Roles McVey.
Mrs. Lobban graduated Alderson High School as the salutatorian of the class of 1947, and later graduated magna cum laude from West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery, WV, with a bachelor’s degree in business education and a minor in home economics education. She completed her master’s degree at Marshall University and taught for 40 years in various schools, including Greenbrier East High School, Alderson High School, Rupert High School, Greenbrier College for Women, and Albemarle High School.
Mrs. Lobban joined her husband and father-in-law in running the family’s furniture store, F. G. Lobban Furniture Company. She was a member and elder of the Alderson Presbyterian Church and a member of the Friends of the Alderson Library and the Alderson Mother’s Club. She was a charter member of the Alderson Community Center for the Arts and Humanities and a passionate member of the Alderson Fourth of July Committee. She and fellow Alderson High classmate, Clara Hardesty, chaired the Alderson homecoming banquet for many years.
She loved to garden and teach; and was an expert seamstress, cook, and homemaker. Mrs. Lobban was a devoted caregiver for both of her husbands through long illnesses.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her second husband of 58 years, the Honorable Charles M. Lobban; her first husband of two years, Ed McFerrin; and her two brothers, Howard R. McVey and Dr. James H. McVey.
She is survived by her four children, Lizabeth Lobban Rogers of Alderson, Charles M. Lobban Jr. of Alderson, Dr. John H. Lobban and his wife, Krista, of Morgantown, WV, and Lori Lobban Anderson and her husband, Brian, of Houston, TX; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Rogers, Esq., and his wife, Dr. Rebecca Rogers, Dr. Jane E. Rogers, Dr. Jillian Rogers and her husband, Aaron Wilford, Jo Ellen Rogers, Jordan Anderson, Karlee Lobban, Mallori Anderson, Kendra Lobban, Levi Anderson, Kasey Lobban, Alec Anderson, and Kara Lobban; one great-grandson, Zackary Rogers; one great-granddaughter, Cora Rogers; aunt, Betty Shields McVey; sister-in-law, Charlotte Fulks McVey; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Alderson Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, March 6, at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Lanny Howe officiating. Interment will follow at Alderson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Alderson Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 5, from 6 –9 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 6, from 12 –1 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Ballard, H. R. McVey III, Frankie Jones, Lee Skaggs, Dean Butler, Greg Eary, Jessie Willis, and Brandon Jones. Other members of the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department and EMS will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations of sympathy be made in her honor to the Alderson Volunteer Fire Department, Alderson Community Center for the Arts and Humanities, or the Alderson Presbyterian Church.
Lobban Funeral Home in Alderson is in charge of arrangements.
