The Greenbrier East volleyball took to their home gym floor this past Saturday, Sept. 23 as they hosted a large tournament at the Spartan gym in Fairlea.
Games took place on both sides of the floor at the same time as they normally do. The place drew a good crowd and gave everyone something good to do on a Saturday morning/afternoon.
The Spartans advanced all the way to the semifinals before falling to George Washington, a school that has been a thorn in East’s side for the last several years.
The results from the Spartan matches are as follows:
GEVB vs Nicholas
Win 2-0
25-1, 25-7
GEVB vs South Charleston
Win 2-0
25-12, 25-11
GEVB vs Riverview
Win 2-0
25-12, 25-13
GEVB came out of pool play as the #1 seed overall and looking for a tourney win, but it was not meant to be. GW advanced to the championship against Bridgeport with the Patriots winning the tournament.
Quarterfinal
GEVB vs Hampshire
Win 2-0
25-16, 25-22
Semi-Final
GEVB vs George Washington

In the Finals, GW beat Bridgeport 2-1.
Spartan libero Dia Sauvage set a milestone on the day, one of many she has reached in a Spartan uniform over her storied career. She had 65 digs in the 10 total sets played, which put her over 2,000 digs for her career. East coach Matt Sauvage, Dia’s father, had this to say about his daughters accomplishment.
“It’s crazy,” the coach said.
I’ve never had anyone to 2,000. I’ve had eight players get to 1,000, but she is the first ever in East history to 2,000,” Ma. Sauvage continued.
