LEWISBURG W.Va. (WVDN) – The Greenbrier County Commission met for its first September meeting on Sept. 12. After the initial county business was completed, Commission President Tammy Tincher provided a Proclamation naming Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week.
The proclamation was read by representatives of the General Andrew Lewis Chapter of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution), Regent Suzanne Cronquist and Vice-Regent Judy Deegans.
Part of the proclamation stated that “lost rights may never be regained” as reasoning for the revolution that followed its creation.
The next order of business was a discussion of a Ridges Appurtenances Replacement project for White Sulphur Springs. The city had tried other avenues but ended up coming to the County Commission for a pledge of money for a matching grant. This project will be overseen by Region IV. It will replace five pump stations, which is considered an urgent matter.
The County agreed and will use Tax Increment Funding and TIP funds from 2022 to fulfill the contribution.
The Airport Authority submitted a request for a reduced building permit rate for a new hanger door. Martha Hylton, the director of the Greenbrier County Airport, said, “It’s been over two years since three hanger doors failed. The major cost in this repair is the door materials, we ask therefore the permit be based on the labor expense alone.” The Commission agreed.
Matt Wyatt gave an update on the runway upgrades/rehab project. He stated the runway would be closed for repaving on Sept. 17-23. Next year, the second phase of the project will proceed.
On the courthouse construction, the administrative offices were all moved. To access the tax offices and the assessor’s offices, entry is through the new annex. No cross-through traffic into the older structure will be permitted. Courtrooms, judges and other court offices will continue to operate in the original courthouse section.
Commissioner Rose stated, “There are still some things we need to do. Just know that there is no access between the buildings. That will not change. You must exit to the street from one side and re-enter the court side through separate security.”
