Mark Anthony “Hugo” Hughes

Mark Anthony “Hugo” Hughes, 62, of Conway, SC, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Roper St. Francis Hospital, Charleston, SC, after a short illness.

Born June 3, 1961, in Lewisburg, he was the son of the late Gertrude Hughes Hastings and William Eugene Hughes. He was raised in Lewisburg and attended public schools in Greenbrier County, graduating from Greenbrier East High School in 1979. After graduation, he attended Concord College and then enlisted in the United States Army.

After moving to South Carolina, Mark began work at Herald’s Office Supply and also worked in various construction jobs. He was so funny and never met a stranger. He was the life of the party wherever he went. Friends and family members loved to crack jokes and give him a hard time, which he took lovingly, and he gave it back. He had a nickname for everyone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Sidney “Charlie” Hastings; sister-in-law, Robin Hughes; and nephew, Percy “Andy” Morgan.

He leaves to celebrate his life: son, Dr. Mark Anthony Hugo Hughes, Jr. of Lakeland, FL; and daughter, Alexandra LeeAnn Hughes, of Lewisburg, WV; brothers, Darrewll (Toni) Hughes of Lewisburg, WV, Michael Hughes and Derek Hughes, both of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Jeffrey Hughes (Kim) of Charlotte, NC; nieces, Angela Hughes, Tonya Gleaton, Alexis Barfield, and Brooklynn Hughes; nephews, Darrewll Hughes, Jr. (Desiree), Logan Hughes (Lee-Ann), Matthew Walker, Justin Hughes, and Brayden Hughes; great-nieces, Kayla Gleaton, Lyric (Cole) Davis, Shaylen Hughes, Sunsarae Hughes, Sheridan Hughes, Samara Hughes, and Teagan Hughes; great-nephews, Trysten Hughes, Lucas Hughes, and Nakai Hughes; and his best friends, Riddick Skipper and Shawn Stanley.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV. Family will receive visitors beginning at 1 p.m. with the memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Kathie Holland and Minister Toni Hughes will be presiding.

Online guestbook can be signed at www.morganfh.net.
