Carol Harris Curran, 87, of the River Oaks community, Port Royal, SC, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born Carol Jean Tennant on July 22, 1939, in North Attleboro, MA, of parents, Harold Sr. and Maude.
Carol was an Air Force veteran who served during the Korean conflict. She met and married Garner D. Harris while stationed at George Air Force Base in Victorville, CA. They relocated to Jacksonville, FL, following their assignment in California. She resided in Florida until she relocated to Port Royal in 2005.
Carol never met a stranger. She would engage with anyone and everyone. She was often seen blazing through town on her sporty red scooter. She was kind, compassionate, and wise. She made it her life’s work instilling the virtues of honesty, integrity, and hard work to her four children. Her spirit of love and warmth endures.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 31 years, Garner D. Harris; her late husband of 11 years, Walter Curran; her sister, Noel Tennant Hall; and brothers, Harold Tennant Jr. and Donald Tennant.
She is survived by her four children, Robert Harris and wife, Judy Walz, of Lewisburg, WV, Jeffrey Harris and wife, Dawn, of St. Helena, SC, Nancy Harris Vista and husband, Dave, of Horse Island, SC, and Donald Harris and wife, Sharon, of Jacksonville Beach, FL; her sister, Cynthia Sewell of Pittsburgh, PA; four grandchildren, Ian Harris of Jacksonville, Rachael Harris Fichtner and husband, Eric, of Shenzhen, China, Hamilton Harris and wife, Megan, of Anchorage, AK, and Carter Harris of St. Helena; five great-grandchildren, Noel Fichtner, Rylan Harris, Ty Fichtner, Jackson Fichtner, and Elaina Fichtner; her extended family, Chris Fair and wife, Vy, and children, Ethan and Aly, of Jacksonville Beach, Brian Fair and wife, Jenn, of Jacksonville, and Katie Walz of Leavenworth, WA; many nieces and nephews; her grand dog, Sparkles; and grand cats, Bogey and Bob.
A celebration of life was held Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 11 AM at Port Royal United Methodist Church, 1602 Columbia Avenue, Port Royal, SC 29935.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Palmetto Animal League https://palmettoanimalleague.org.
Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory in Beaufort, SC, was in charge of arrangements.
