ALDERSON, W.Va. (WVDN) – The Alderson 2023 Energy Express site has had a fantastic program this summer. The kids that attended the site have participated in many activities such as reading, writing, art and STEM. Many of the kids’ art was displayed at the open house on July 18. At the open house, the parents got to meet the mentors and were treated to a dessert bar.
The site team made great connections with the community. The team assisted with the kids’ bike race in Alderson that was presented by Tri-County Fire Department. They helped guide runners for the Run For Snack 5k in Alderson. They also got a chance to assist their local library.
Thanks to the community coordinator and mentors, they had many celebrity readers from the community, such as Chief Tod Williams and Jacob Thompson from the Alderson Police Department, Stephen Baldwin, Rick Parker, Alicia Utterback and Andrew Utterback. The site also had many consistent youth volunteers. These include Kelsie Short, Kendal Massey, Kateland Harper and Kinley Hoanker, to name a few.
Alderson site mentors consist of Gillie Gill, Haven Bostic, Erin Persinger and Kailee Short. Community coordinator is Kaelyn Gore. The team is led by site coordinator Holly Gore.
