ALDERSON, W.Va. — Nestled in the heart of the Mountain State, Alderson, West Virginia, is a charming small town that offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and community spirit.

Founded in 1777, Alderson is a town steeped in history. The town is named after its founder, John Alderson, a Baptist minister who established the first Baptist church in the Greenbrier Valley. Today, the town’s rich history can be seen in its well-preserved architecture and the Alderson Memorial Bridge, a historic landmark that spans the Greenbrier River.

Alderson is not just a town with a past; it’s also a town with a vibrant present. The community hosts a range of events throughout the year, including the annual Fourth of July celebration, which is known as the state’s largest Independence Day parade. The event includes a spectacular fireworks display and a host of activities that bring together residents and visitors alike.

The town is also known for its natural beauty. It’s located on the banks of the Greenbrier River, offering a plethora of outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and hiking. The surrounding Greenbrier Valley is home to a variety of wildlife, making it a haven for nature lovers.

Alderson’s community spirit is another aspect that sets it apart. Despite having a population of just under 1,200, the town has a strong sense of community, with residents coming together to support local businesses, schools, and charity events. The local library is a hub of activity, offering programs and events for all ages.

Alderson’s economy is primarily driven by small businesses, agriculture, and tourism. The town’s location along the Greenbrier River and its proximity to the larger cities of Lewisburg and Beckley make it an attractive destination for tourists looking for a peaceful retreat.

In short. Alderson is more than just a small town. It’s a community with a rich history, a vibrant present, and a promising future. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or someone looking for a close-knit community, Alderson has something to offer you.
