CHRISTIANSBURG, VA- Three Greenbrier East Spartans and a former Greenbrier West Cavalier are teaming up this summer on the Blacksburg Rattlers 18-U baseball team.
East’s Peyton DeHaven, Gavin Bennett and Gabe Patton and West’s Dale Boone, a West Virginia State commit are on the roster this summer.
The team came together rather quickly and was rained out of their first week of practices. Their first game was on July 1, which was the first time some of the players met their teammates and coaches.
The Rattlers split their first pair of doubleheaders, in Salem on July 1 and in Christiansburg on Sunday, July 2.
DeHaven hit .375 over the first weekend, scored four runs and had two RBIs. Bennett was 2-5 and pitched an inning. Patton racked up two hits at the plate and scored a run and drove in another. He also pitched well and threw 6.1 innings, scattered seven hits and allowed three earned runs with four strikeouts. Boone went 2-6 with two runs and three RBIs on the weekend. On the mound, he tossed five innings, allowed three hits, gave up one run and struck out four.
The team goes back to each place this coming weekend, Christiansburg this Saturday and Salem on Sunday.
