GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. (WVDN) – The city of White Sulphur Springs has new leadership after Tuesday’s municipal election with Kathy Glover elected mayor.
Lewisburg held municipal elections, as well, with Mayor Beverly White and council persons Sarah Elkins and John Little running unopposed. All were reelected.
Unofficial election results are as follows (winners are in bold):
White Sulphur Springs: mayor, Michael Mack Mcintire: 23, Erin Lovell: 122, Kathy L. Glover: 219; Recorder: Penny Fioravante: 128, Mark Gillespie: 216; city council: Ryan L. Lockhart: 206, Jennifer Andrews: 172, Thomas Taylor: 182, George “G.P.” Parker: 235, Melanie D. Argyrakis: 155, Ted Humphreys: 180, Nancy Marshall: 163, Audrey Burns VanBuren: 227.
Glover replaces Mayor Bruce Bowling who did not run this term. Gillespie ran for recorder after serving on city council for several years. Parker, Humphreys and VanBuren were all elected to their terms.
Taylor makes a triumphant return to city government after resigning as mayor in 2011 and being reinstated in 2012 after a lawsuit. At the time of his election, Taylor was 21 years old, the Spa City’s youngest mayor ever elected.
In Lewisburg, White received 131 votes, Elkins received 128 votes and Little received 126 votes.
The city’s levy passed with 135 votes for and 7 against. The levy raises approximately $476,254 per year and pays for streets, police, fire and parks departments.
