MAXWELTON, W.Va. (WVDN) – On Monday, May 22, Mike Williams and Debbie Bowman, members of the Maxwelton Ruritan Club, presented scholarships to three deserving seniors during the annual program at Greenbrier East High School.

Abigail Warfield was the recipient of the Build Your Dollar Scholarship in the amount of $650. Carissa Cochran received the Henry Lindsey Scholarship which is $3,000 given over four years.

The club has been serving the community since 1953, and each month in 2023 the members will be doing a special community service project. For the month of May, the Maxwelton Ruritan Club gave a $700 scholarship to Kryslen Tucker to commemorate its 70th anniversary..

The club reminds everyone to be sure to visit its ice cream concession stand at the State Fair of West Virginia beginning August 11. All proceeds from the ice cream sales go back into the community and allow the Ruritans to continue to provide scholarships and many other projects throughout the year.

Also, on Oct. 21, the club will celebrate its 70th anniversary at the Henning Church of God fellowship hall beginning at 3 p.m. They invite all of the community to help them celebrate this milestone.
