WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (WVDN) – Main Street White Sulphur Springs held the West Virginia Dandelion Festival Art Show at the White Sulphur Springs Public Library on Friday, May 26. Forty adult entries by 15 artists were displayed at the show in 10 different categories. 

The following award winners were announced at the show:

Acrylics:

First place: Judie Lewis, “Lunchtime;”

Second place: Betty Jo Gum, “Startled Dove;”

Third place: Misty Murray Walkup, “Black Bears at Leatherwood Falls;”

Honorable mention: Shelby Oreolt, “Weeds are Flowers Too!”

Wood:     

First place: Misty Murray Walkup, “Huginn & Munian Shield.”

Ceramics:  

First place: M.J. Oref, “The Beauty Within;”

Second place: Judie Lewis, “Kitty.”

Jewelry:

First place: M.J. Oref, “Rampant Lion”

Oils:

First place: Misty Murray Walkup, “River Otters;”

Second place: Judie Lewis, “Moving Forward;”

Third place: Marietta Lyall, “On a Summer’s Day.”

Metal Work:

First place: M.J. Oref, “Fall Solstice.”

Pastels:

First place: Karen Lee McClung, “Wonder;”

Second place (tie): Karen Lee McClung, “Fox;”

Second place (tie):  Marie M. Lewis, “Pete;”

Third place: Brenda Lewis, “Apples.”

Mixed media:

First place: Shelby Oreolt, “Ready to Stuff;”

Second place: Richard Wiant, “The Old House;”

Third place: Richard Wiant, “The Man With No Name.”

Drawing:

First place and People’s Choice winner for Adult Artist: SophieAnn Lewis Sweet, “House.”

Watercolor:

First place and Best of Show: Patricia Stine, Northbound on the Greenbrier River Trail;”

Second place: Marie Lewis, “Troubled Sky;”

Third place: Sharon Johnson, “On the Terrace;”

Honorable mention: Karen Lee McClung, “Possum Oh Possum.”

The art show also accepted 25 applications from juvenile artists and received entries from several talented budding artists. The submissions were grouped together by grades. Best of show and honorable mentions are listed below.  

Fifth grade winner: Ethan Wiant, “The Joker.”

Sixth grade:

First place: Ellie Burns, “For the Love of Animals;”

Second place: Adeline Vickers, “Stripes and Polka Dots;”

Third place: Gustavo Garcia-Junceda, “I am the Walrus;”

Honorable mention: Anna Holbrook, “Under the Sea;”

Honorable mention: Britney Blevins, “Happy People.”

Seventh grade:

First place: Emmy McHale, “Small Wonder;”

Second place: Lilly Speilman, “Northern Lights;”

Third place: Grayson Adams, “Call of the Wild.”

Ninth-12th grade:

First place: Kaylee Wiant, “Nikki Sixx Motley Crue;”

Second place: Chelsea Drennen, “Bouquet;”

Third place: Chelsea Drennen, “Rainbow Starry Night;”

Honorable mention and People’s Choice for Student Artists: Susan Fleshman, “Spring Fields Presents;”

Honorable mention: Kaylee Wiant, “Elvis Presley.”

The White Sulphur Springs Public Library and the organizers of The West Virginia Dandelion Festival would like to thank all the sponsors and artists who made this very successful show possible. These sponsors include Gillespie’s Flowers, The Greenbrier Sporting Club, Tootsie’s Place, the Village Wine Shop and the White Sulphur Springs Old White Garden Club. They would also like to thank the very dedicated individuals who volunteered their time and energies into making the reception and exhibit a rousing success.
