PORT CLINTON, Ohio (WVDN) – Students representing the Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) program at Greenbrier East High School in Lewisburg made a strong showing in a prestigious Camp Perry Ohio Open match on the 19th and 20th of May.
Camp Perry had some elite competitor, as there were representatives from several Division I air rifle teams, including West Virginia University.
Greenbrier East’s JROTC sharpshooters Cody Jenkins, Autumn Rudd, Lilly Grinstaff and Jared Krinke did a great job representing the Spartans, said instructor Lefty W. Smith.
Cody Jenkins shot a personal best 563. Jenkins has been accepted to The Virginia Military Institute and plans to participate with Keydet Rifle Team. Jenkins’ dominance at the Civilian Marksmanship Program in Alabama enabled him to qualify for the All-Service National Championships where he placed 32nd, a noteworthy achievement, Smith said.
The JROTC air rifle competitions and team programs support the mission of the Junior ROTC, “to motivate young people to become better citizens.”
“The instructors and cadets at Greenbrier East High School would like to express our sincere gratitude to the citizens of Greenbrier County. Without your support for programs such as the excess levy our participation in events such as this would not be possible,” said Smith.
