CHARMCO, WV- Greenbrier West athlete Dale Boone signed his letter of intent this morning, May 19, to continue his baseball career with the West Virginia State University Yellowjackets.
Located just a few miles from Charleston, WVSU has a long and rich baseball tradition. Their former coach, Cal Bailey, rejuvenated the program and won 1,063 career games from 1978-2014.
Now coached by Sean Lloyd, the Yellowjackets finished 28-22 this season, and just finished up a couple weeks ago with a loss in the MEC tournament.
Boone will bring an exciting playing style to the team next season and may play several different spots on the field.
“I will primarily be a pitcher and will also be offered an opportunity to hit and play third base and the outfield,” Boone said.
Boone likes where the campus is located and that played a big role in his decision.
“It is a really nice school, and the location fits nicely into a plan for my future,” he stated.
Boone understands that college sports is a whole different level, but he seems to have the right mindset moving forward.
“My goals are to maximize my athletic potential and become the best baseball player I can possibly be,” the senior said.
While getting to play college baseball is exciting, leaving a school behind and moving on for good can be quite emotional, and Boone admits he will miss it all.
“I will miss all of the friends and bonds I have made with people at West,” Boone finished.
