ALDERSON, W.Va. (WVDN) – On Saturday, April 15, an auction of donated gifts and services from businesses in the area will be held to benefit Alderson resident Valerie Burns Boggs who has been fighting a failing liver for several months and now is under care at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia, in preparation for a liver and possible kidney transplant.
The benefit auction will take place at the Organ Cave Community Center at 3 p.m.
Area businesses have donated materials and service coupons, and more donations are coming in every day. Also, for a donation, there will be hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks for sale.
Community support is what this is all about, and Valerie Boggs’ daughters, Terra Shockley and Tracy Boggs, are trying to help their mother any way they can.
Valerie’s husband, Tim Boggs, will need support as well, as he travels often to Charlottesville to be by his wife’s side.
This illness has been sudden, with Valerie Boggs only having a few symptoms last summer and considered now to be a “high priority,” says Shockley. The entire family has been quick to rise to the cause and solicit support from friends, family and the community.
Last November, Second Creek Pentecostal Church raised several thousand dollars with a turkey dinner that sold out very quickly, before chicken was then found nearby to extend the dinner.
“There has been an outpouring of support in T-shirt sales and fundraisers by mom’s friends in the Covington area,” Shockley said.
Supporters can order the shirts from Shockley by calling 304-661-8584. T-shirt costs are $17 for short sleeve, $22 for long sleeve, $27 for crew sweatshirt and $32 for a hoodie. The larger sizes are just a bit more: add $2 for XXL, $3 for 3X, and $4 for 4X. The T-shirts are black with green and white lettering and say Supporting Val’s Fight.
Kermit, Billy and Ben Morgan of Morgan Real Estate and Auctioneering Group will conduct the April 15 auction. One hundred percent of the proceeds of the April 15 auction will go to Valerie and Tim Boggs.
The Organ Cave Community Center is located at the intersection of Rt. 219 and Monroe Draft.
