LEWISBURG, W.Va. (WVDN) – Janie Whissell, employed at IGA in Fairlea has been a long-time Polar Bear Plunger, who has consistently raised money for the Child and Youth Advocacy Center.
This year she braved 30-degree ambient temperatures to plunge into the water at Blue Bend and raised over $700 for the CYAC.
Officials at the CYAC thank Whissell for her courage and her generosity in making sure that the CYAC fundraiser continues by her actions alone.
The Child and Youth Advocacy Center coordinates the efforts of child protection staff, law enforcement professionals, family advocates, medical experts and mental health clinicians under one roof. The staff:
- facilitates their partners’ collaborative response;
- arranges families’ visits to the center, including provision of support services such as transportation;
- conducts forensic interviews;
- provides family advocacy and crisis intervention services;
- provides mental health therapy; and
- ensures appropriate medical treatment.
All of their services are aimed at reducing trauma so that children and families may begin the healing process. The Child and Youth Advocacy Center services are free of charge to every client. They service Greenbrier, Monroe and Pocahontas counties.
