RAINELLE (WVDN) – Information released about a shots fired call to state police has developed into an active homicide investigation.
State troopers with the Rainelle detachment of the West Virginia State Police reported Wednesday, Jan. 8, that they had responded to a shots fired call in the western end of Greenbrier County the previous day.
According to reports, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, deputies with the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office and the West Virginia State Police responded to a shots fired call at approximately 12.25 p.m.
On Feb. 8, it was reported that state police were investigating the death of Lorne Atkins, 52, of Rainelle. According to a press release from the West Virginia State Police, they were notified of the death on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
White Sulphur Springs EMS was on the scene of Atkins’ death, and Sgt. Murphy with the Rainelle detachment of the West Virginia State Police is the investigating officer.
