Danny Lowe Keene, 59, of 3001 Winterberry Avenue, Valley Ridge, Covington, VA, died Sunday, November 27, 2016, at Caldwell, Greenbrier County, WV.
He was born July 30, 1957, in West Virginia to the late James Harold and Eloise Lowe Keene.
He graduated from Greenbrier East High School in Fairlea, WV, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in education from Bluefield State College in 1986. He was a teacher and coach in the Alleghany County Public School System for over 29 years. He was an avid West Virginia University and Dallas Cowboys football fan and enjoyed all Alleghany High School sports, but truly loved coaching the girls’ basketball and girls’ softball teams.
He is survived by his wife, Nicole Curtis Keene of Valley Ridge, Covington; three daughters, Jessica Lee Keene of Charlotte, NC, Brittany Erin Powell-Keene of Lewisburg, WV, and Kendell Blair Keene of Valley Ridge; two sons, Skyler James Keene of Lewisburg and Peyton Michael Keene of Valley Ridge; a sister, Melissa Keene Vance of Ronceverte, WV; a granddaughter, Alice Katherine Clendenin; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends and co-workers in Alleghany County Public Schools.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, December 4, 2016, at 1:30 PM in Hodnett Hall, Alleghany High School, Covington, with the Revs. Doug Moore and Grover Nicely officiating, assisted by Ty Dobbs, Alleghany High School athletic director. Interment will follow in Rosewood Cemetery in Lewisburg.
Pallbearers will be Gary Erskine, Stacy Johnson, Brandon Weiford, Jason Lowden, Steven Wilkes, Pat Simmons, Jeff Irvine, Larry Rock, and Billy Level.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 3, from 5-8 PM at the Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, VA.
The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions in Danny’s memory to the MAC Club, 210 Mountaineer Drive, Covington, VA 24426.
