Robert Beirn McDowell, 90, of Clifton Forge, VA, died at his residence on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
Bob was born July 16, 1925, in Ronceverte, WV, the son of the late Burnette S. and Mary Lipps McDowell.
He was retired from Coca Cola Consolidate of Roanoke, VA. He was a member of the VFW Post in Covington, VA, and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was a signalman. Mr. McDowell was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and the Men’s Bible Class. He loved his church and served as an elder and a deacon and was in the church choir.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Emma, Susan, Alice, Ruth and Peggy, and a brother Richard.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Arbaugh McDowell of Clifton Forge, one son, Robert Lee and his wife Cecille of Convington, and one daughter, Patricia Dressler and her husband Bill, of Covington.
Also surviving are four grandsons, Joe McDowell, Aaron McDowell and wife Meredith, Trey Dressler and wife Susan and their daughters Anna and Emme of Birmingham, AL, and Ethen Dressler of Roanoke.
Mr. McDowell is survived by two brothers, William “Bill” McDowell and wife Anna of Ronceverte, and James McDowell and wife Betty of Fairlea, WV, a number of neices and nephews and several grandnieces and grand nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 PM on Friday, May 13, 2016, at Zion’s Light Baptist Church in Ronceverte with the Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Burial will follow McLean Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM Thursday, May 12, 206, at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg or at the residence any time, 1011 Cliffwood Circle, Clifton Forge, VA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, the Clifton Forge Fire Department, Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church or Southern Care Hospice Services, 5330 Peters Creek Road, NW, Suite D-1, Roanoke, VA 24019.
