Bettie Maybelle White, 83, of Clayton Pointe Drive, Clayton, NC, formerly of Ashland, WV, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016, at her residence in North Carolina.
Maybelle was born September 14, 1932, at Ashland to William D. and Lillie Brooks Owens.
She resided in Ashland for the majority of her life and was a member of the Prosperity United Methodist Church. Maybelle was a 1951 graduate of Northfolk High School. She had been a resident of Johnston County, NC, for the past six years. Maybelle was the last member of her biological family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie B. White Jr.; brother, William Owens; sister, Jacqueline “Kitty” Terry; and granddaughter, Raycheal Osborne.
Survivors include her son, Lonnie “Rocky” White and wife, Pearl, of Clayton; as well as several sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016, at 2 PM at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield (Bluewell), WV, with the Rev. Earl Hill officiating the service. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV, where nephews will serve as pallbearers.
The White family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service at 2 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ronceverte Elementary School, 246 Ronceverte Elementary Drive, Ronceverte, WV 24970 (memo line of check should read: Raycheal Osborne Literacy Foundation).
Cravens-Shires Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
